: Activists of CPI marched to Kochi Metro’s four key work sites on Tuesday, demanding that contractors utilise funds given to them for repairing roads, restoring footpaths and widening narrow culverts in the Aluva-MG Road-Pettah metro corridor. Speaking after inaugurating the march to the upcoming metro station at the Kaloor international stadium, district secretary of CPI, P Raju blamed Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) for ‘apathy’ in supervising work along the corridor.

“We will shortly organise another series of agitations as a follow-up measure, unless KMRL and contractors restored roads to good condition. They must also remove barricades at the earliest to reduce traffic congestion,” said the member of party’s district executive committee P. C. Sanjith.

As per agreement, contractors must maintain roads in the vicinity of metro work sites, since they are given funds for this. But half-hearted attempts at many places have led to repair works not enduring the rain.
