Court grants anticipatory bail to filmmaker

The Ernakulam Sessions Court on Friday granted anticipatory bail to filmmaker Jean Paul Lal, actor Sreenath Bhasi, and two members of a film crew in a case related to cheating a young woman and passing lewd comments at her.

The court ordered that in the event of their arrest, they may be released on their executing a bond for ₹50,000 each with two solvent sureties each for the like sum.

The case has been registered against Lal and others under Sections 420 for cheating, 354 (a) (sexual harassment), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman), and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The case was launched on the basis of a complaint lodged by an actor who was part of the movie, Honey Bee 2 directed by Lal. The actor had also alleged that the filmmakers had used her body double in the movie without her permission. According to the complaint, the accused made crude remarks about her when she met them at a hotel on the city outskirts in November last year.
