Couple robbed on train

A couple on board the Hapa-Tirunelveli Superfast Express on Sunday was robbed of their valuables by unidentified persons after rendering them unconscious.

The couple, identified as Ramakrishnan and wife Damayanthi, hailing from Kalamassery here, was admitted to the Ernakulam General Hospital after they were spotted unconscious by fellow travellers.

On being alerted, their relatives came to the Ernakulam South railway station and took the two to hospital. They were discharged around 8 p.m. They were returning home after visiting their daughter in Gujarat.

In the preliminary deposition before the Railway police, the couple said that they had not taken much food from outside. A gold chain weighing 5.5 sovereigns, six bangles, and Rs.8,000 were stolen.
