A meeting of the Congress parliamentary party in Angamaly municipality on Monday urged its chairman C.K. Varghese to resign from the post.
The demand came in the wake of a direction in this regard from the District Congress Committee chairman V.J. Poulose. “There is a clear direction from the six-member subcommittee appointed by the KPCC for seeking the resignation of Mr. Varghese, who is now holding the post against the party’s decision. The DCC has now conveyed this decision to the parliamentary party, which has also agreed to the same,” Mr. Poulose said. According to him, Mr. Varghese ought to have stepped down from the post about six months ago so as to hand over the reins to the I group but he was resorting to some delaying tactics instead. Except for the chairman and two other councillors, all the fifteen councillors of the municipality attended the meeting, held at the Aluva Palace.
Mr. Varghese maintains that a power pact clinched between the two groups earlier allows him to complete a full term of five years.
