The Kerala High Court on Tuesday directed the Kochi Corporation Secretary to appear in person before it on July 19 in a contempt of court petition alleging issue of licences for business establishments in residential buildings at Panampilly Nagar despite a High Court ban.

Justice V. Chithamabresh issued the directive when the petition filed by Sobha Ramachandran and other residents came up for hearing.

No licences

The Advocate Commissioner, appointed by the High Court to verify the licences of business firms functioning from residential buildings at Panampilly Nagar, had reported that as many as 115 commercial establishments were operating either out of converted garage spaces or by creating commercial spaces in residential buildings. The Commissioner reported that 245 commercial establishments were operating from residential buildings within the detailed town planning scheme area without licences.
