The Corporation will spend Rs.5.3 crore during the current fiscal in the urban transport sector and Rs.3.96 crore for housing projects for the urban poor. The annual spending of the civic body in various sectors including the urban transport and housing schemes would be Rs.150 crore.
A proposal to this effect was presented at the Corporation Council that met here on Tuesday.
Under the urban transport sector, the main spending — a sum of Rs.2.35 crore — will be for acquiring land for road projects.
Water transport
The construction of the roll-on, roll-off jhankar and its berth will receive financial support of Rs.1 crore each. The local body will spend Rs.84 lakh for getting a boat constructed and the vessel will be deployed in the Kochi-Vypeen sector.
In the palliative care sector, projects worth Rs.40 lakh has been proposed, and for the Swachh Bharat Mission, the share of the urban local body will be Rs.1.96 crore. The solid waste management sector will get financial assistance to the tune of Rs.75 lakh and the amount will be used for procuring refuse compact carriers that will collect and transport refuse from the city streets to the solid waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram.
The social welfare standing committee of the local body will get Rs.2.20 crore for its activities.
Under the project for the renovation of public buildings, the Corporation will spend Rs.1 crore for the restoration and repair of EMS Town Hall.
Organic farming
For promoting organic farming and for distributing grow-bags, the civic body will use Rs.21 lakh and Rs.15 lakh respectively. Animal husbandry projects in the city will receive Rs.14 lakh.
