Excise Minister K. Babu and legislator Benny Behannan, who are facing allegations of attempting to shield some of the Congress leaders from not being named by the accused in the in the solar scam case, have decided to take legal recourse against the allegations.

BJP leader K. Surendran had alleged that Mr. Behannan had offered money to persons connected to Saritha S. Nair, the accused in the scam, for not mentioning Congress Ministers’ names in her complaint. Mr. Babu was accused of offering money to a complainant in the case.

Responding to the developments, Mr. Babu said he had utter contempt for media houses that aired such unsubstantiated and slanderous statements and organised discussions on such false news. The Excise Minister said he didn’t know the lawyer of the accused and had not contacted any one as alleged by some quarters. Media houses should not stoop to abysmal levels for organising discussions on such allegations. Legal action would be initiated against those who raised such scandalous allegations, he said.

Mr. Behannan said Mr. Surendran was abusing the media platform for defaming public men, which would be legally dealt with. Mr. Surendran should come forward to prove his allegations. As the BJP leader’s statements have caused defamation, legal action will be initiated against him. Public men should use the media platform in a responsible manner, he said.

Mr. Behannan alleged that Mr. Surendran had been raising such baseless allegations. He should show come forward to prove his allegations or face legal action, he said.
