The State Department of Industries and Commerce has announced the availability of Common Facility Centres (CFCs) for plastic-based industrial units at Aluva Plastic Cluster and for rubber-based industrial units in Changanassery and Kottayam.

These facilities have been established under the Cluster Development Programme of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

The announcement by the Industries Department said that these facilities were available to any entrepreneur in the State.

The facilities at the plastic cluster in Aluva include all the modern tool room machineries for plastic industry. The facility can undertake all types of tool room works for the plastic industry including machining jobs, spark erosion, wire cut, surface grinding and cylindrical grinding.

The plastic cluster contact person is K.K. Ibrahim, Managing Director, Aluva Plastic Consortium (P) Ltd, said the government announcement.

The Aluva plastic cluster is among the pioneering ventures launched by the Industries Department as part of its cluster development programme. A state-of-the-art tool room was inaugurated at the cluster in February this year. The plastic consortium was launched in 2004 under the initiative of the Union Ministry of MSME.

The experiments with cluster development had led to considerable success for the Industries Department. A total of 54 industrial clusters had been established in the State. Technology upgradation, sourcing of raw materials and marketing are the key areas in which the cluster approach had yielded rich dividends for the individual industrial units.

The Aluva plastic consortium has a modern tool room, assembly section, an inspection unit, design and planning department and a conventional machining section.

The facilities at the Intermix plant in the rubber cluster in Changanassery and Kottayam include internal batch mixer, modular asphaltic paving rubber blending unit, characterisation of polyethylene/EPDM/silicon dioxide multi-component composites by solid-state dynamic mechanical spectroscopy.

M.C. Kuriakose, Managing Director, Natural Rubber and Fibre Products Manufacturers Consortium (P) Ltd is the contact person for the rubber cluster facilities.
