B.Com most preferred course among college aspirants

Demand for the popular B.Com programmes has peaked across the affiliated colleges of the Mahatma Gandhi University in the new academic year. The flagship course remained top on the list of most preferred courses among thousands of aspirants, who registered their options under the online centralised allotment process (CAP) of the university for the academic year 2016-17.

According to the data available with the CAP cell of the varsity, the maximum number of options – 1.02 lakh – was submitted for the B. Com Model 1 Finance and Taxation course. While applying, a student may opt for any number of colleges affiliated to the university. Over 21,000 options were registered for the B. Com Model I Computer Applications course while the option count for the B.Com Model II Computer Applications programme was 29,382. The number of options for the aided course in B. Com Model I Computer Applications was 18,938.

The B.A. Economics programme retained its position as the second most popular course. As many as 68,712 options were received for the programme. The demand for B.A. English also remained intact with 50,909 options registered.

For UG,Physics, Chemistry most preferred

The B.Sc courses in Physics and Chemistry were the most preferred among the science undergraduate programmes. Over 58,700 options were received for the B.Sc Physics course followed by nearly 57,400 for the B.Sc Chemistry programme. The Bachelor of Business Management course had many takers as the option count for the programme was 27,126. The option count for B.Sc Zoology Model I was 39, 878 followed by Botany Model I. As many as 34, 819 options were received for B.Sc Mathematics Model I.

As many as 48,734 seats are available for various undergraduate programmes offered by the university. Of this, 18,984 seats come under the management quota while 1,702 seats are reserved under the community quota. For B.Com, the total number of seats is 18,585; B.A (10,008) and B. Sc (11,260).
