Cochin Medical College Principal R. Gireesan’s resignation has been accepted by the Cooperative Academy of Professional Education. A fax received by the Medical Director in this regard confirmed that Executive Director K. Sukumaran Nair had accepted the resignation.
Dr. Gireesan had sent a mail to Mr. Nair saying that he did not want to continue in the post.
Report not submitted
He had sent in his resignation last Wednesday when the students’ union chairman had alleged in a letter that the principal was watching pornographic material on his office computer. Mr. Nair had refuted the allegation and had ordered a probe into the matter.
The probe by the designated three-member panel has been completed, but the report is yet to be submitted.
“As another assignment has come my way, I don’t want to continue in my post,” Dr. Gireesan told The Hindu . “If the probe panel’s report clears my name, I will take legal action against the students who had perpetrated rumours defaming me,” he said.
Medical Director Raju Antony, without revealing the contents of the report, said the probe report had become worthless now as the principal has resigned.
He said he would go in person to submit the report to the CAPE executive director.
