District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareeth is likely to submit the report on Cochin Medical College (CMC) to the government on Monday.

Mr. Pareeth was asked by the government to submit a report on the assets and liabilities of the medical college after the Cabinet decided to take over the institutuion.

According to audited results received by the Collector, Rs.1 crore is paid as salary to the staff of the medical college. Net assets of the college were evaluated at Rs.74 crore, and liabilities around Rs.50-60 crore. The annual operational cost of the college has been pegged at Rs.1 crore.

Meanwhile, a move is on at the medical college to club entrance tests for the 15 NRI seats with the examination recommended by the James advisory committee for management quota seats in self-financing colleges in the State.

With the government takeover of the medical college getting delayed, it was decided that an external agency would conduct the examination for NRI seats. However, no decision has been taken on the date to conduct the examination.
