Coastguard officials are conducting extensive search for a suspicious black boat which, according to police, was spotted off Chavakkad on Sunday night.

Four coastguard vessels and a helicopter are presently conducting extensive search for the boat, but nothing suspicious has been found, coastguard officials said.

Coastguard DIG B.K. Loshali is also participating in the search operations, sources said.

Police at Chavakkad, a coastal town in Thrissur district, had last night informed the coastguard about an unidentified black boat with at least eight persons on board.

Coastguard immediately sent a ship to search for the boat off Chavakkad. It returned late last night and the search resumed Monday morning with four coastguard ships and a Dornier helicopter, sources said.

An interceptor craft from Beypore is also taking part in the search operations, they said.
