Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the phase II of the Infopark campus here on Wednesday.

The Rs. 2,500-crore phase II project aims at creating 8 million sq ft work space for IT/ITeS companies and hopes to generate about 80,000 jobs.

Infopark CEO Hrishikesh Nair said that over a million sq ft IT space will be ready by the end of 2015 in the first stage.

This includes Infopark’s own IT building and Cognizant’s first phase building, construction of which is in final stages, he said.

The Phase II project, spread across 160 acres, is being planned as a walk-to-work township project, which includes facilities like hotels, shopping malls, international school, multiplexes, convention centres etc. It will also have facilities like eco-friendly green park, water treatment plant and sewage treatment plant.

Infopark has joined hands with several global IT companies and infrastructure developers like Cognizant Technologies, UST Global, Trans Asia, Muthoot Group, Media Systems, Claysys Technologies, Caspian Techparks and Padiyath Innovation for phase II development. Around 60 per cent of the land in the second phase has been leased out to IT/ITeS companies and co-developers.

Mr. Chandy will dedicate the campus in the presence of Opposition Leader V. S. Achuthanandan and Minister for IT and Industries P. K. Kunhalikutty at the inaugural ceremony.
