All along rulers have made jokers out of the public by giving lofty promises, which they never intended to fulfil.
With one such promise of good roads proving to be a chimera, the clowns are all set to strike back.
Fed up of having to manoeuvre through king-sized potholes and moved by the plight of innumerable victims of accidents caused by that apology of roads, a group of like-minded people with theatre background in the city are gearing to stage a very novel protest.
They will come together for an impromptu skit modelled along the lines of a street play at Edappally signal junction on Monday at 11 a.m under what they have imaginatively named “Pothujanam” Theatres, loosely translated a theatre for the public.
“It’s not an organisation but just a platform for any member of the public affected by the pitiable roads in the city to register their protest against apathetic authorities. Public turning up for the protest will have the opportunity to become part of the 45-minute-long satirical skit,” said Gireesh Menon, a theatre activist-turned cinematographer and one of the brains behind the idea.
In the invite posted in the Facebook, the organisers observe that it was time to ‘applaud authorities for their amazing service to the people.’ Hinting at the nature of the proposed skit, the post further states that ‘a few responsible clowns’ will lead the show in mocking the system and mourning the sad ‘demise’ of authorities.
“They have made us clowns and now its time to repay; to make fun of them! Do come and join.” And going by the response, the call hasn’t gone in vain.
