Taking up the cause of employees being issued pink slips by the IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at its campus in Infopark, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) is set to organise a gathering in protest in front of Infopark on January 21.
The protest will be organised by the CITU-affiliated Association of IT Employees with the support of CITU unions from other sectors. The association State general secretary A.D. Jayan held informal multiple consultations with aggrieved employees at various places in the city on Monday.
“Unlike in the past, they are opening up and have even agreed, at least for the time being, to participate in the protest. The protest will be staged demanding the protection of jobs and employees in the IT sector,” Mr. Jayan said.
The association has also decided to launch a mass petition campaign inside Infopark to elicit the support of the IT employees in general on the issue.
The plan is to send the petition to powers that be including the Prime Minister and the Union IT Minister.
Meanwhile, Hibi Eden, MLA, has intervened in the issue on behalf of the employees who had approached him earlier.
Mr. Eden is known to have held consultations with TCS management representatives urging a fair deal in the case of affected employees, including a decent package and helpful measures to help them find new jobs.
