The Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) has joined forces with other select Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutions in an effort to fight malnutrition globally.

ICAR , the apex research body in the country, and International Centre for Living Aquatic Resources Management (ICLARM), popularly known as the World Fish Centre, based in Malaysia, have agreed to work together on Fish Agri-Food System in 2018-19, said a press release here.

A collaborative work plan has been signed, and the agreement will address the challenges of sustainable aquaculture, sustainable small-scale fisheries, and enhancing the contribution of fish to the nutrition of the poor in priority areas in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific.

CIFT, with its expertise in nutrition profiling of locally available small indigenous fish species and development of neutraceuticals from fish and marine organisms, is tasked to develop affordable and nutritive fish-based food for pregnant and lactating women as well as children in the age group of the 0 to 3.
