The Syro-Malabar Church on Monday created history of sorts by conducting a holy mass in sign language for the hearing impaired.

The mass, conducted at Mount St. Thomas, Kakkanad, the headquarters of the Syro-Malabar Church, was in tune with the Church’s duty to offer spiritual services to the differently abled, said Major Archbishop of Syro-Malabar Church, Cardinal Mar George Alencherry.

Cardinal Alencherry celebrated the mass which was rendered by experts in sign language. He called upon all dioceses to emulate the practice and said that God did not differentiate between the differently abled and the regular populace. The mass was organised by the Church’s Prolife Apostolate and the St. Thomas Catholic community for the hearing impaired.
