In the wake of the solar scam throwing up more sleaze, this time by way of a purported letter written by accused Saritha Nair in 2013 which contained allegations of sexual abuse by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, veteran CPI(M) leader V.S. Achuthanandan urged the Congress High Command to keep Mr. Chandy and those named in Ms. Nair’s revelations out of the poll fray.

“Never has the dignity of Kerala been so badly sullied before,” he told the media here on Monday, asking Mr. Chandy and others to apologise to the people. The public should boycott them for shaming the State, he said.

Mr. Achuthanandan said the alleged misuse of official positions and machinery by Mr. Chandy and others to exploit a woman was serious. There should be a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations.

Besides, the Congress should reconsider its decision to field these people in the elections.
