Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated a 19-day-long Global Village at the Bolghatty Island here on Saturday, in connection with the ongoing Grand Kerala Shopping Festival (GKSF).

In his inaugural address, he said every year the relevance and importance of GKSF was growing with greater people’s participation. The shopping festival brought equal benefits to the business and tourism sectors of the State.

Spread over 24 acres, the village has about 400 stalls, showcasing an array of products and services, art, culture and traditions from around the country and the world.

The Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution K.V. Thomas who was the chief guest at the function announced that the Union government would allocate 25 lakhs to the ongoing sixth edition of GKSF.
