A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has taken over the probe into the murder of businessman Paul Muthoot George, on Tuesday took custody of documents including the charge sheet and other evidence that were submitted to the Ramankary Judicial First Class Magistrate Court by the State police that earlier investigated the murder.

A three-member CBI team, which arrived at the court around 11 a.m., first submitted an application to JFC Magistrate Sabitha Chirakkal, seeking release of the documents and the evidence, following which an order was issued. The team returned to Kochi around 2.30 p.m., taking along with it a huge box and 25 other smaller cartons, which were released by the court.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the death of Shihab, a witness the Muthoot murder case and who was recently questioned by the police in connection with the case, was due to consumption of poison.

However, the actual nature of death, whether it was a suicide or not, is yet to be confirmed, police sources said.
