Cases have been registered against TV anchor and actor Ranjini Haridas and a passenger, after an altercation between the two at Nedumbassery airport on Thursday morning.

Binoy of Ponkunnam arrived with family at the Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery on Thursday morning after a vacation in the United States. There were long queues before the customs counter at the airport.

Ms. Haridas arrived at the airport as part of an artiste group returning from an overseas tour. Passengers waiting in queue objected when Ms. Haridas tried to bypass the queue and get herself cleared out of turn.

What ensued was a verbal duel between the anchor and Mr. Binoy. On the basis of a complaint lodged by Ms. Haridas with higher police officials, a team from Nedumbassery police arrived at the spot and registered a case against Mr. Binoy. Later, on the basis of a complaint lodged by Mr. Binoy’s wife, a case was registered against Ms. Haridas on similar charges.

Both complainants alleged that the other used abusive language, but the investigators are left with only video footage with no audio of the incident. The footage, sources said, had visuals of both engaged in a heated argument.

Celebrities have a higher status symbol in the world. Fame naturally
comes with certain power; and people with power (celebs,
politicians, etc) generally expect certain privileges to be extended to
them everywhere. I am not saying that anyone with a famous job is more
important than the other; its just the way the world works.
Considering that Nedumbassery airport plays host to many celebrities
one solution to please the masses is to have a separate "Express"
queue which can be used by anyone for an exorbitant fee. EVERYONE is
happy! Celebs: Will be forced to use this queue considering their
status. Gov: Extra income. Regular folk: cannot afford it; therefore
are not concerned with it.

This shows the culture less part of our country. Just because some one
is a celebrity, they shouldn't get special treatment. Rules and
regulations shouldn't be broken or bend for the popular or famous

I like Renjini's views on women's right and the way she fought religious
fanatics on TV defending women's freedom to dress modern. However,
having known of celebrities jumping the queue on many occasions, I do
believe that she did throw her weight around. Airport authorities should
ensure that nobody jumps the queue - neither a top politician nor a
famous personality.

It is very sad influential folks take advantage and try to bypass rules
of queue system in customs immigration; IF they feel they are much more
IMPORTANT, they could have got special permit from authorities earlier
like our MPs Ministers to go thro special gate; not done, use their so
called public "popularity" to break rules; they must be punished duly;
not the other passengers who tried to obstruct; Govt must take action !!
