A 34-year-old businessman was found lying dead in the room of a prominent hotel here this morning.

According to the Alappuzha North police, the man, Rajesh, who runs a watch sale and repair outlet in Mullakal in the heart of the town, had taken a room in the hotel, situated alongside the National Highway-47, on Friday. He was last seen taking the stairs to his room around 11 p.m. on Friday, allegedly in an inebriated condition.

The cleaning staff of the hotel, who arrived for duty on Saturday morning, found the room unlocked. On entering, they saw the body of the man lying on the bed, following which the hotel alerted the Alappuzha North police.

Police said the man had regular arguments with his family over his drinking habit and that he had left home after a quarrel on Friday morning. However, the nature of death is yet to be ascertained. The body has been sent for postmortem and the result is awaited, police added.
