The Ernakulam District Private Bus Operators’ Association has warned of skipping trips through S.A. Road from Friday if the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) does not take steps to repair the potholed corridor.
The stretch from Kadavanthra to Vyttila, where civil works are under way, is especially bad, causing traffic hold-ups and accidents. General secretary of the association K.B. Suneer said that the matter was repeatedly taken up with the DMRC and the Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).
“They have assured that the road will be repaired at the earliest. Any delay will prompt us to operate through alternative routes from Friday. Buses that operate multiple trips through the road are reporting damage to tyres, leaf plates and mechanical parts due to severe wear and tear. This is apart from health and orthopaedic problems to passengers and bus crew,” Mr. Suneer said.
Sources in the DMRC said temporary road restoration work would be done to fill potholes on the stretch.
KMRL sources said matters would not have reached such a stage had the roads been resurfaced before the monsoon.
