As the private buses keep off the road in the city on Wednesday, people are facing the hardship of yet another bus strike here. The strike has been called at the peak of the Onam festival season and is a blow to the traders. All the main roads leading to the city are blocked because of the increase in number of private vehicles on the road.
S.A. Road, M.G. Road, and the roads to Edappaly and Tripunithura had heavy traffic till noon. The situation is likely to prevail in the evening peak hours too.
The bus workers went on strike demanding an increase of 50 per cent in bonus, while the bus owners believe that the demand is not justified.
The District Labour Officer has called a meeting of the bus workers and bus owners in the evening to settle the issue. While both the workers and owners are sticking to their stands, they also said that they would try to reach a settlement.
