Bund Road project awaits government nod

Even as traffic chaos along S.A. Road is set to worsen following Kochi Metro works, a crucial State government order on acquiring 72 cents of land for Chilavanoor Bund Road is still pending.

The proposed 3.50-km-long Thykoodam-Thevara Bund Road would run parallel to S.A. Road and would be able to take a portion of traffic from the metro corridor. Sources in Greater Cochin Development Authority said that the Bund Road project can be commissioned within six months of obtaining the Government Order (GO) permitting acquisition of 72 cents from 25 owners in the area.

“We have sought a compensation package like what was done for Kochi Metro to acquire land for the road corridor that would decongest S.A. Road. People are resisting acquisition unless they are compensated on par with the market rate. The District Administration can kick-start land acquisition only if a GO is ready,” said GCDA chairman N. Venugopal.

The agency has widened the stretch from Sastri Nagar to K.P. Vallon Road and work is expected to be over by March.
