BSNL waives modem installation charges

Customers who apply for new broadband connections from the Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited till July 31 will not have to pay modem installation charges of Rs. 250. The offer is in effect from Monday.

The offer, according to BSNL Alappuzha General Manager T. Natarajan, is in connection with BSNL's efforts to increase the number of broadband connections in the district by 20,000. New connections can be booked either over the toll-free number 1555, or by sending an SMS to 94465 00555, typing “BB<space>Land phone number (without STD code). BSNL representatives will reach the customer's door on receiving the SMS and do the necessary for providing the new connection, Mr. Natarajan said.

Government employees and pensioners will have a 20 per cent discount on monthly charges and plan charges as well, he said, adding that the connections varied from 256 Kbps to 8Mbps, with some broadband plans offering even 500 free phone calls.
