With the aim of bettering coverage of its mobile network in the district, BSNL is adding 84 2G towers to the existing 883 towers and 234 3G towers to the present 651 towers, according to G. Announcing the company’s Onam prepaid mobile plan for ₹44 with year-long validity being introduced on August 7, he said BSNL would present three new tariff vouchers (₹188, ₹289 and ₹389, with added value) this season. All BSNL mobile phone users with smartphone but without data connection would get free data services through the month.

He said besides attractive schemes for pre and post-paid mobile users, with the aim of bringing in more subscribers, broadband services would also be incentivised. Of the total 15 lakh BSNL mobile users in the district, nearly 1.5 lakh had linked their mobile phone numbers with Aadhaar.
