BSNL Ernakulam set for a leap in next gen services

May 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - KOCHI:

BSNL Ernakulam is on the cusp of a whole new era in telecommunication, with its next generation network (NGN) bringing about a convergence of fixed line and cell phone services in a limited group.

If Kumbalanghi, Vyttila, Edakochi and Palluruthy exchanges have been already upgraded to this system, 13 more exchanges such as Nettoor, Chittoor, Fort Kochi, Vaduthala, Kandakadavu, Aluva, Ayyappankavu, Moozhikkulam, Palarivattom, Kalady, Thottakkattukara, Marampally and Thodupuzha exchanges will be brought under the ambit of the NGN in the current fiscal.

“The NGN offers two advanced services such as fixed line-cell phone convergence and IP centrex. The first is a call forwarding facility linking up a group of up to nine land and mobile phones,” said principal general manager G. Muraleedharan.

The IP Centrex service, in the meantime, allowed unlimited intra and inter-State calls between members in a group on a nominal monthly rent, without any call charges.

A third service, which will be launched by BSNL Ernakulam in a week, is the Mobile Data Offloading Service for pre and post-paid mobile BSNL customers. “It enables BSNL customers with 2G and 3G data connection to avail of high-speed (4.5 G or upwards of 64 mbps) surfing wherever BSNL Wi-Fi service is available without paying anything extra. It will be a big boost for smartphone users, as the Wi-Fi network is set for incredible expansion,” he said.
