Arun Balachandran was busy nurturing ideas in his college days before he went on to create a unique pre-incubation facility ‘Innovation Lab – Technology Business Incubator’ in Kochi at the age of 24.

A graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Model Engineering College (MEC), Arun has always been passionate about working on new ideas. One such idea helped him pay his hostel fees.

“I was contributing for some local magazines to meet my expenses. This part-time job left a spark in my mind. With the support of then Principal Jyothi John, I published ‘Technofirst’, a technology career magazine that later crossed the borders of the campus and found a place on newsstands. It was priced at Rs. 20 and became an instant hit,” said the young innovator.

After graduation, Arun worked as business analyst with an IT company for one-and-a-half years. “I resigned from the company and pursued the dream of setting up my own company,” he said. With the help of Kris Gopalakrishnan, executive co-chairman of Infosys and Shashi Tharoor, Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Arun was instrumental in launching a campaign titled ‘I am an entrepreneur’, aimed at igniting young minds towards entrepreneurship.

Arun is ready with his latest ‘NRI – Technology Business Incubator’ project at Infopark here. “It’s about NRI investment in IT sector and the project has got the nod from the Department of Science and Technology and the State government. It will be officially launched in a month,” he said.
