A petition against several media organisations in connection with the allegations raised against Mata Amritanandaymayi was filed before a Kochi court here on Tuesday.

The petition, filed before the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, accused a few television channels, newspapers, and others of publishing allegations mentioned in Gail Tredwell’s book on Amritanandamayi without verifying facts and with intent to insult religious sentiments.

“The book contains allegations that are improper, illegal, and injurious to the sentiments of many people. The media organisations propagated these allegations without verifying them, with the intent of communal polarisation,” said R. Krishna Raj, counsel for the petitioner Cijith.

Similar charges The petition also raised similar charges against the person who lodged a complaint with the Karunagappally police seeking probe into the allegations made in the book.

The lawyer said the media reports and comments by the other accused in the petition were made without verifying facts and were aimed at disrupting communal harmony. The petition requested the court to order an investigation against these persons and organisations.
