Bomb threats disrupt train traffic in Kerala

Train traffic was temporarily disrupted between Kottayam and Ernakulam after a bomb was spotted near the bridge over Muvattupuzha River near Piravom Road Station.

The Station Master was alerted about the bomb placed in a tiffin box near the bridge at around 9.35 a.m.. Bomb and dog squads from the Kottayam police were immediately pressed into service.

After the bomb threat Bangalore-Kanyakumari Island Express and Kottayam Passenger were stopped at Tripunithura railway station; New Delhi-bound Kerala Express and Janshatabdi Express at Mulanthuruthy Station and Hyderabad-Thiruvananthapuram Sabari Express at Piravom Road station.

Highly placed sources in the Railway Protection Force (RPF) said that during the preliminary examination, the bomb was reported to be inactive and could have been abandoned near the spot where it was found.

The police and RPF personnel did a thorough check, after evacuating public out of the area and also examined the railway tracks in the vicinity. The train traffic was restored by 12.05 p.m., railway sources said.
