People were evacuated from LuLu mall near Edappally on Friday afternoon after an anonymous phone caller claimed that bombs had been placed at three spots in the mall.

The first call came to the mall’s main customer care number at 11.56 a.m. The male caller, who spoke in Malayalam and English, said that bombs had been placed in the mall. Mall authorities immediately informed the police and began an inspection. The police, bomb squad and dog squad arrived at the mall and began inspection around 12.30 p.m. Meanwhile, two more calls were received at the mall, with the last call made at 2.45 p.m.

Police and mall authorities also began steps to evacuate people from the mall. The public were evacuated first, followed by the staff, and the mall was later closed to the public. “We are still inspecting the mall and working to trace the caller, who seems to have called from a fake mobile number. Nothing suspicious was recovered during our search,” said a police officer.
