July 15, 2010 06:13 pm | Updated 06:29 pm IST - KOCHI

City Police conducted searches at the office of Janmabhumi Daily, after a couple of calls came into the editorial desk to alert the staff about a bomb being planted inside the building.

The first call came in at around 2.30 p.m. The caller claimed to be calling from Kollam, but the number showed that the call was made using Internet telephony. The caller asked for Chief Editor. He then said that he came to know about the bomb and wanted to alert the staff.

The second call that came in soon asked for Kummanam Rajasekharan, Managing Director of the daily. On being told that he was not in station, the caller threatened to kill him and said the bomb would go off soon at the Kochi office.

Two more calls were made, all using Internet telephony, sounding more threats and abuses. The City Police led by N.R. Jayaraj, Circle Inspector, Kalamassery, checked the office and premises along with bomb and dog squad for nearly two hours and confirmed the calls to be hoax.
