Ending a wait that lasted nearly two days, the bodies of the two youths, who had been washed away by waves from the Kuzhupilly beach on Saturday, were recovered on Monday.

According to the police, the body of 18-year-old Ayyappadas was retrieved by a Marine Enforcement boat around two nautical miles west of the accident spot. The body of Ashik, which was floating in the sea near the Puthyvype LNG Terminal, was recovered by local fishermen.

The bodies were sent for a post mortem upon completing the inquest proceedings in the presence of Fort Kochi Tahsildar K.V. Ambrose.

The youths were taking a bath in the sea on Saturday evening when they were washed away by the waves. They had come to the beach along with their relatives when the accident occurred.

Earlier on Sunday, the relatives of the youths had resorted to a sit-in protest at the beach citing delay in launching the search operations.

A joint combing operation was organised by the Navy, Coast Guard, Coastal Police, Marine Enforcement and Fire Force.
