A country boat ride along the Thevara Perandoor (TP) canal that flows through the city may soon add to the tourism activities that can be undertaken in Kochi.

Inspired by the smooth and comfortable travel that he took along the canal, the Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany felt that the trip should be added to the list of tourism activities that would have many takers in the city. The unhindered travel was possible by the thorough cleaning of the canal. The travellers in the vessel included Hibi Eden, MLA, K.J. Jacob, the CPI (M) leader in the Corporation Council, CPI (M) councillor K.V. Manoj and CPI representative C.A. Shakkeer.

The boat ride began at Aryanpadam and continued for half- a- kilometre. As the sludge was removed during the recent cleaning operations, the vessel sailed smoothly.

The ride also proved that the de-silting was effective. It may not be able to operate mechanised vessels through the canal as there would not be sufficient clearance for the vessels. However, country vessels can be comfortably operated, Mr. Chammany said.

The Corporation hopes to prepare a project report for including the ride in the tourism activities, he said.
