It was a novel protest that demanded the attention of not just the passers-by, but also the traffic police.

Around 11 a.m. on Saturday, Magician Jovan Madhumala embarked on a blindfolded motorcycle ride across Kottayam town demanding quick action in the Mullaperiyar dam issue.

He was guided in front by a vehicle making announcements over a loudspeaker and an ambulance behind to ensure that the people on the road were warned of the oncoming group.

Mr. Madhumala said that through his ‘blind' journey, he wished to provide an eye-opener for those responsible for effecting a decision in the Mullaperiyar dam issue to ensure the safety of many endangered lives.

The protest was organised by the Kottayam Union of the Kerala Viswakarma Youth Federation and was inaugurated by its president P. Rajesh Kumar. The masked protest began at the Gandhi Square and traversed through the busy K.K. Road and passed by the District Collectorate and the Thirunakkara ground to return to its starting point.
