Bharatiya Janata Party secretary Kirit Somaiya has said that the issues of corruption involving Robert Vadra, businessman and son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, will be raised in the coming session of Parliament.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he accused Mr. Vadra of amassing wealth through illegal channels and demanded that a full-fledged investigation be conducted into the scandal.
Mr. Somaiya said Mr. Vadra had bought thousands of hectares of agriculture land near the Bikaner-Jaisalmer highway, which had now been declared a solar power zone. The land was bought at Rs.10,000 per hectare to Rs.50,000 per hectare. He said the Rajasthan government had allowed private companies to purchase agriculture land directly from farmers for setting up the solar power project. Over 700 companies have approached the State government for solar power projects in the zone. These companies were compelled to purchase land from Mr. Vadra.
The BJP leader alleged that the Rajasthan government facilitated the operation of a land mafia to enable Mr. Vadra to earn more than Rs.1,000 crore through the solar power land scam. He released documents to the media to support the allegation.
Mr. Somaiya said the net worth of Mr. Vadra’s companies had gone up to Rs.3,000 crore from Rs.57 lakh in just three years, as per valuation. Recently, six new companies were formed in three months by Mr. Vadra in association with the real estate group DLF, he said. The total paid up capital of the companies was Rs.6 lakh, he said.
