The bill to revise the Police Act will be presented in the ongoing Assembly session, said Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Minister for Home and Vigilance.
He was speaking after inaugurating the five-day training programme for police officers, organised by the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) in collaboration with the Bureau of Police Research and Development, here on Monday.
The bill will then be forwarded to a committee for making required changes on the basis of inputs from different quarters, he said.
The Minister said that some police officials need to be updated in their knowledge about the law, citing that the many laws meant for environment protection are rarely used to book offenders.
The Government has already set up a forensic science laboratory, costing nearly Rs. 13 crore. A narco-analysis centre and brain mapping centre would also be set up soon, he said.
