Bad weather has not dampened the spirits of bamboo enthusiasts visiting the 14th edition of Kerala Bamboo Festival, which got under way here on Marine Drive on Friday. Though it was a cloudy morning, the car parking facility was almost fully by about 9 a.m., said an official of Kerala State Bamboo Mission, one of the organisers of the show.
The bamboo festival has combined everything that bamboo has to offer — from bamboo saplings to the traditional payasam from bamboo seeds.
The abundance of bamboo stars with LED lights signifies the season but the versatility of bamboo has been brought out in full measure.
While the visitors can place orders or buy a wide range of bamboo products, they can also see artisans weaving bamboo mats and working on bamboo to turn out their favourite products.
Around 200 artisans are part of the festival, which has been organised by the State Department of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with the Kerala State Bamboo Mission (KSBM) as well as the Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion.
The exhibition is open till December 5 between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m.
