Babu warns against fleecing pilgrims

November 19, 2011 02:26 pm | Updated 02:26 pm IST - KOCHI:

Excise and Ports Minister K. Babu has said that the State government will take stringent action against those who are found fleecing the people by artificially jacking up the prices and hoarding essential commodities during the Sabarimala pilgrimage season.

Delivering the inaugural address at a district-level launch of the fair price vegetable outlets of Consumerfed here on Friday, Mr. Babu said that Consumerfed's maiden entry into the vegetable sector was aimed at market intervention to control prices.

He said that offering essential commodities to the common man at reasonable prices is the stated policy of the government. He said that 30 similar outlets would be set up across the district in the days to come.
