A team of Revenue officials on Wednesday evening foiled the effort by a group of people to encroach upon nearly 250 acres of land in Chinnakkanal village.
The encroachers were evicted by the Munnar Task Force constituted by former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan in 2007 and a case of land encroachment has been registered in the Santhampara police station.
This was the second attempt to encroach upon land in the area; the Revenue Department had foiled a similar bid two months ago.
Udumbanchola tahsildar V.R. Mohanan Pillai said on Thursday that the land was now under the possession of the Revenue Department.
The area was found cleared for cultivation and some tree saplings were found.
Mr. Pillai said that the Revenue Department had been entrusted with the task of finding out if any further encroachment was made in the area.
He said that strict action would be taken against those who made such attempts and cases would be registered against them.
The encroachments were done two months ago when the officials were busy with the election duty, he said and added that a team would be constituted to monitor the area and take timely action on such cases.
