The Cheranellore police arrested four persons on charge of attacking the principal and students of Government Vocational Higher Secondary, Edappally, on Friday evening.
Two students of the school and two others, Rahul, 19, and Nitheesh Vasudev, 20, both residents of Eloor, were arrested and produced in court on Saturday. Police said an argument had broken out between some students of the Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary sections of the school over a football match that took place a week ago.
“Some students of the Higher Secondary school complained to the principal about a VHSE student. The HSE students were angry as no action had been taken against the VHSE student,” said a police officer.
The two students, along with some older friends who are suspected to be part of goonda gangs, arrived on motorcycles and tried to attack the student after school on Friday. When the principal tried to intervene, the men allegedly brandished a knife at her and threatened to attack her. Police said those arrested were known to have connections with goonda and drug gangs and had been involved in minor scuffles.
Police are also on the lookout for the older brother of one of the students arrested, who was allegedly part of the group that attacked the principal.
The city police and Excise Department have been conducting special operations near the school as part of their anti-drugs drive.
