Inter-State Gandhi Peace Bus traversing the landscape bearing the footprints of the Father of the Nation was accorded a warm reception on its arrival in the district on Saturday.
The bus started its tour of the district with a reception at Maher Snehabhavan at Perumppilly. The delegation led by Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi working chairman N. Radhakrishnan propagating the message of peace was accorded reception at more places later in the day.
The touring team was received into the district at the Snehabhavan by representatives of various organisations led by the district panchayat vice-president Bindu George. Students and faculty members from various schools came to see the exhibition organised aboard the bus.
The touring team was then accorded a reception by the students and faculty members of Government Boy’s HSS, Tripunithura. Municipal chairman R. Venugopal inaugurated the reception.
He wished the touring members success in their mission of spreading the message of love and brotherhood across the world. He said that Gandhian principles are becoming increasingly relevant while exhorting to isolate those who attempted to shatter peace in the society.
Team leader N. Radhakrishnan delivered the introductory address. Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi secretary Ramdas, councillor Sasidharan, V.P.G Marar, and youth programme officer P.R. Sreekala spoke. District information officer Chandrahasan Vaduthala presided. VHSS principal Shailaja welcomed the gathering and HSS principal in-charge Sreeja proposed vote of thanks.
Hibi Eden, MLA, received the delegation at a reception held at Palarivattom. He urged youth to thwart attempts to spread political fascism in the society. Touring members then introduced the young MLA to a traditional spinning wheel arranged as part of the mobile exhibition.
The peace bus then proceeded to the Advaitha Ashramam at Aluva before staying overnight at Janaseva Shishu Bhavan.
Although there is no formal schedule for Sunday, the members will visit Moozhikkulam. The tour will resume at the U.C. College, Aluva, on Monday before proceeding to Thrissur district.
