DMO asked to fill vacancies of doctors
The government will ensure proper implementation of an action plan to check spread of infectious diseases in the district during the monsoon season.
Excise Minister K. Babu, who addressed a meeting of elected representatives and Health officials at the District Collectorate here on Saturday, said that all arrangements had been made in government hospitals to ensure the availability of medicines. The Minister asked the District Medical Officer to fill up the vacancies of doctors by either re-deployment or on contract basis.
Mr. Babu said that presidents of various panchayats in the district could approach the DMO to appoint doctors on contract basis in primary health centres.
Suggesting that vigil should be maintained against the spread of infectious diseases in the district, Mr. Babu said that concerted efforts should be made to co-ordinate various medical streams for health action programmes during the monsoon season. He also directed the local bodies to involve the people in mosquito eradication programmes.
The district administration will receive the funds earmarked for checking spread of infectious diseases in the district on Monday. Mr. Babu said that panchayats should take care to utilise the funds effectively.
Anoop Jacob, Minister for Civil Supplies, recommended the Health department to initiate public awareness programmes against the spread of contagious diseases during the monsoon season.
There should be a critical review of all the measures being taken to prevent infectious diseases, he said.
Haseena Noushad, District Medical Officer, said that the number of infectious diseases has come down in the district compared to last year.
Programmes have been drawn up in tune with the requirements in each region to check the spread of contagious diseases, she said.
