A meeting convened by the Kerala State Electricity Board Chairman on Wednesday has decided to compensate SmartCity Kochi by handing over alternative land measuring the exact extent of the IT project site used up by the electricity body for the construction of its tower.
The meeting entrusted District Collector P.I. Sheikh Pareed to visit the site and to assess the extent of land being taken by KSEB for its tower construction and to take follow up measures. Mr. Pareed said that he will make the visit on Thursday and based on which the extent of land to be handed over to SmartCity Kochi will be assessed.
SmartCity Kochi had already issued a letter consenting to the arrangement to receive alternative land from KSEB in lieu of the land conceded for tower construction. This was after a survey revealed that KSEB was constructing its tower on the land belonging to SmartCity Kochi.
In an earlier meeting the Collector had identified two plots belonging to the KSEB for this purpose and SmartCity had opted for the land adjacent to the Brahmapuram Diesel Power Plant.
The construction of tower has been a bone of contention between the two parties for long now.
The dispute was seemingly resolved when arrangement for alternative land received the approval of the SmartCity director board meeting held on Saturday.
However, the issue took a new turn on Tuesday when KSEB resumed the tower construction. The move, it is learnt, before actually handing over the alternative land as agreed had not gone down well with SmartCity authorities.
