Two persons were arrested by the anti-corruption wing of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of accepting bribe from a petrol pump owner.
Umasankar, Assistant Controller of the Legal Metrology Department and M.P. Louis, senior technical officer of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) were arrested for accepting Rs. 10,000 from the owner of petrol pump at Mamangalam, allegedly for issuing safety certificate.
Illegal sand recovered
The City Police spotted nearly six loads of sand kept without authorisation during a search done at Cheranallore and Kothad areas. The search was done following information of illegal sand mining resuming after a lull. The shadow team under sub-inspector Mohammed Nissar and Cheranallore police under sub-inspector Sudhir Manohar seized the sand from a workshop near Kothad bridge. A report on the recovery was submitted to the District Collector, as required under the Kerala River Banks' Protection and Regulation of Sand Mining Act.
Arrested
Tripunithura police arrested the owner of a video shop on charges of selling pirated CDs. George, 52, of Manikudiyil, Koothattukulam, was arrested from his shop at S.N. Junction.
More than 1,000 pirated CDs of Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and English films were seized from his shop, the police said.
Found dead
One person was found dead in his residence at Munambam on Monday. The police said that Vinu, 41, was employed in a Mumbai-based ship and was under treatment for alcoholism. Overdose of alcohol is suspected to be the cause of death. The Munambam police have registered a case for unnatural death.
