Three persons were dead and another seriously injured when a boulder fell off a granite quarry at Kadapplamattom near Pala on Monday. The workers were loading granite on the lorry when a large boulder fell off from a height of nearly 300 ft. The boulder fell on one of the victims whose body was mutilated beyond recognition. The other two succumbed to their injuries at the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital.

The accident occurred by 11.20 a.m. at the quarry at Puthanangadi on the Vayala-Kadaplamattom road. The deceased have been identified as Thankachan (45), son of Kunjumon of Ponkunnamparayil House, Kadaplamattom; Jose Joseph (52) of Thondickal House, Kadaplamattom, and Jose George (49) of Kanjiramparayil House, Kadaplamattom. Mathai of Thaiparambil House, Kadaplamattom, has been admitted to Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital.

The quarry is run by one Jomy of Pulickal House, Kudallur, on the land owned by Joy of Medakkal House, Kadaplamattom. RDO Joy Varghese, Tahsildar P.K. Prakash, Deputy Superintendent of Police P.N. Ramesh Kumar visited the spot following the accident.
