Kochi Tuskers may have been given the boot from the IPL, but cricket fans in the State now have another star-cast team to root for.
Kerala Strikers, which will make its debut in the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) in January, was launched at Taj Malabar here on Thursday evening.
Led by actor Mohanlal, who is one of the team's promoters along with Lissie Priyadarshan and P.M. Shaji, a Chennai-based businessman with roots in Kerala, the side will be in action in the CCL, which will be a six-side affair next year with the inclusion of Bengal Tigers.
Mohanlal, being unwell, could not make it to the team's launch but vice-captain Indrajith revealed that the superstar will be a bowler to watch out for. Indrajith is a wicketkeeper batsman.
Prithviraj, Kunchacko Boban, Unni Mukundan, Rajiv Pillai, Vinu Mohan and Bala are some of the other stars in the team. Laxmi Rai and Bhavana are the team's brand ambassadors.
Mammooty unveiled the team jersey.
Actors Boney Kapoor and Radhika Sarath Kumar and Sports Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar were present.
