KOCHI: A medical apex body met here on Wednesday as part of the investigation into a complaint of medical negligence in the death of medical student Shamna. A report on the decision taken by the apex body will be submitted to the Crime Branch (CB) that had sought its opinion on the issue.

The CB is yet to complete its investigation into Shamna’s death. It has only recorded statements of the accused staffers and other employees at the Government Medical College.

Shamna Tasneem, 19, died while undergoing treatment on July 18 last year at the medical college.

The high-level medical team that had probed the issue had differed with the District Medical Officer’s report, which had said that there was no medical negligence. Directors of Health Services and Prosecutions, CB officials and forensic experts attended the meet.
