The Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocesan unit of Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council Temperance Commission reiterated here on Sunday that Kerala, “drowning in liquor” should be saved.
The annual meeting of the unit, held at the Renewal Centre, Kaloor, pledged to work for freeing the State from the clutches of liquor.
Bishiop Sebastian Edyanthrath inaugurated the meeting, attended by around 250 temperance activists from various parishes of the Eranakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese.
The meeting began with a Mass, led by Bishop Edyanthrath. Charlie Paul, president of the archdiocesan unit of the Temperance Commission presided at the inaugural function.
State general secretary Fr. Paul Karachira; Archdiocesan Director Fr. George Nereveettil and general secretary C. Johnkutty were among those who spoke.
Best temperance activists were given awards at the annual meeting. Koratty won the award for the best parish; Edappally for the best unit and Chandy Joseph Pallippuram won the award for the best worker.
